This morning as I was having what was probably my third cup of coffee (I am addicted) I was reading my favorite blog PaleOMG. Today was a guest post by Juli’s friend Tom, it was all about keeping things in perspective.
While I have not started my CrossFit journey or any exercise plan for that matter (4 weeks Post Partum), we have implemented a healthier way of eating as you all know from this blog. One of the biggest things that I deal with is feeling guilty when I have a “cheat”, but you know what its OK. Even if I don’t always eat Paleo we have made giant changes in the way this family eats. We are implementing life changing habits in ourselves and our children. Changes that will hopefully stay with them as they grow older. Go give it a read I think it will really resonate with a lot of you.
In other news, our Dino Miah gave himself a concussion yesterday, caused by falling off his bench and hitting his head and then later jumping on his bed and hitting the same spot even harder. His CAT Scan was normal last night at the ER. This morning we were back at the ER because he was throwing up so much and was having issues walking and talking. He would just stare into space or fall asleep. They say he has Post-Concussion Syndrome, the doctors said his symptoms could last for a week. Here’s to hoping he gets better soon. Little boys sure know how to scare the crap out of you!!

Today I thought I would share what we had for dinner last night, Smokey Bacon Chili…so so good. I found this recipe on one of my favorite Paleo websites PaleOMG, she is hilarious and makes such amazing food. We have tried several of her recipes and they never fail to be tasty and different. Here is the cooking video that she did for this recipe. Hope you all think it is as tasty as we do!

Hey everyone! Today I thought I would talk about the benefits that we have seen since switching from SAD (Standard American Diet) to Primal. While there have been many benefits small and large I thought I would tell you about the once that make me the happiest.
1. For the first time in my adult life I no longer need to take Iron Supplements. I have battled Anemia for my entire adult life; between having babies, not eating nearly enough Iron enriched foods and genetics. Not only was I battling Anemia but I also managed to pass this on to Miah who at 2 needed Iron Supplements…not exactly what I wanted for my son. After changing the way that we ate we are both now completely off the Iron Supplements which let me tell you is awesome (have you seen the size of Iron pills!!).
2. Both of my Dino boys have dealt with Eczema for their entire lives (runs in the family), while Alex’s can be controlled with Eucerin cream, Miah was not so lucky. His Eczema gets so bad that it makes the area between his toes crack and bleed, also he has it behind the ears and pretty much every crease on his little body as well as on his head! Poor Guy!! We were told that the only thing we could do was to lotion him 3 times a day everyday…not fun! We have now been Primal for about 5 months and his Eczema is gone (minus his head)! No more cracking bleeding owies. He is much happier as it no longer hurts him to walk. This alone shows me how wonderful this diet can be.
3. We all have more energy and in turn are more active and are doing more things as a family. Before we would sit around watch TV and eat a lot of snacks (what we considered good for us, goldfish etc…). Now we have cancelled our cable, and are taking more walks, hiking, going to the Park, going on picnics and generally enjoying life more.
I don’t know if everyone gets these results, but I am here to tell you that I feel better, Eric feels better and the kids feel better to me nothing can top that and if being Primal has contributed to that then I say YEY!
What changes have you noticed in your own journeys to a healthy lifestyle?

Hey everyone Steph here. Sorry that we have been MIA lately blame it on baby crack! We have been enjoying our time with the baby before Eric had to go back to work. Today I am going to do a quick catch up post about some of the Family events we have celebrated recently. Then tomorrow we will be back to our regularly scheduled blog posting!
On July 31st we celebrated Miah-saurus’ 3rd Birthday! I cannot believe that he is three, it seems like yesterday when he was born. He is the most outgoing, loud, sweet, and cuddly boy that I know. I can tell already that he is going to be the one that kicks the gray hair into over drive! We had a small family birthday this year just the Dino Family.
We also received a visit from my parents and my aunt and Granny. It was so nice to see them all as we don’t get to visit near as often as we would like to. I was especially happy to see my Granny, once we move to Alaska it will be about three years till we see her again. While she was here we got a 4 generation picture.
Then today we celebrated Alex-saurus’ first day of Kindergarten and the fact that he will be at school for a full day. At this point I am not sure how to feel about my baby being at school all day long…I miss him. Although I am sure I will get over it (LOL)! Now I am down to only two kids at home for the day and one of them sleeps all day long!
On another note we are coming down to the last month we will be living here at Fort Campbell, we are getting ready to PCS to Fort Wainwright AK! Let me tell you we are excited and nervous all at the same time. Now this is not our first PCS but it will be the first one so far away. We plan on driving all the way which is exciting and daunting all at the same time…can you say 3 kids in a car for 66 hours!!! We are going to make a vacation out of it and stop and see some sights along the way. As sad as it sounds this will be our first real vacation!
Hope you all have a great day and we promise to not go MIA again.

Hey everyone Dino Mom is back! I know you were all so worried about where I may have run off to (haha)! Things are finally getting back to normal here in the Dino Cave. The past few months have been a little rough for me. Our Dino family is now complete with the addition of our smallest Dino Olivia. She is beautiful.
Olivia was born on July 10th, 2012 at 4:44 pm, she weighed in at 9 lbs 8 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long! Huge baby! We were able to avoid having a c-section by physically turning her from her breech position to head down…let me just say that is the most painful thing I have ever felt! Would not want to do that again! We are so thrilled to have our baby girl, the Dino boys are adjusting well to their baby sister and love to give her lots of attention (that will wear off soon).
I am on the mend and looking forward to getting back in shape, nothing like being pregnant to throw away so much work! I am going to be attending On-Ramp soon so that I can get my CrossFit on, but for the time being I am going to slowly work my way back in to doing my yoga. I am hoping to be a healthier stronger me by this time next year (hopefully sooner).
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Eric here, sorry that it has been a while since our last post. It has been extra exciting at the cave we welcomed our newest Dino into the world. I will let the Boss talk about that. But Dino Olivia is a great new addition to our cave.
Today I want to talk about a few random things. First I watched the CrossFit Games all weekend! It was amazing watching all those athletes! Their level of fitness is inspiring. Even the Masters Division would make most people that think they are fit realize they still need a lot of work. It did cause me to realize that I want to do that some day more than I thought I did. I guess I need to step up my training!
So I was feeding our newest Dino Sunday and two commercials for fat-burning crap came on. One was a bigger joke than the other one ( Hydroxycut). Lip something or other was the bigger joke. This one pill will make you skinny! And you don’t have to change your FATTY WAYS! Sorry if that came off mean but sometimes the truth hurts. The lady trying to sell you this awesome pill says you can still eat like you want and lose weight. Now what most people don’t see is at the same time as the smoke and mirrors are flashing on the screen in very small fine print it says diet and exercise are recommended. If a pill promises weight loss and says you can just keep eating the same food that made you fat it should set off all kinds of alarms. But the sad fact is to many people just want to have the magic pill that will fix anything, when the real problem is their diet. It has been shown that adjusting your diet can help all kinds of things, like depression, weight loss, hypothyroid, other autoimmune conditions and sleep. Yet America is becoming full of lazy and lack of self control people, it is sad. I think that is why I want to start helping people. Which is one of the reasons the Boss and I started this site.
One last rant, I think it is retarded to have your name and or your spouses name on your vehicle unless you are like a relator or something like that. I passed a truck yesterday and on the driver side of the back glass it had the husbands name and then the other side had the wife’s name under a over sized gaudy camo Saints symbol and then a bunch of other crappy small look I like to look country decals. I mean come on. I know there are other issues here besides the names… cough..Saints…cough, but how stupid is it to put your first names on you back glass. No one cares. It is almost as bad as soldiers that put the rank of Staff Sergeant and under on their cars. Why pay to put that on when it changes so easily. Plus no one cares.
I feel better now. I will come off my soap box now. Things here at the Cave are starting to get back to normal now. You should start seeing more post from the Boss now that she is feeling better.

Eric here, yesterday was a great 4th! It started off with me getting up at 0430 and driving out to the box. It was two HERO WODS, McGhee and Griff. Now by themselves they would not be to bad but when you do McGhee then only have a few minutes rest before Griff it hurts! It was a good hurt though. I love starting my day with two great WODS. Plus it was a bonus to do some HERO WODS to honor my fallen brothers and sisters that have given all to let us BBQ, enjoy time with the family and blow stuff up!
For dinner I made some awesome kicking Ribs and PaleOMG’s Cinnamon Bacon Backyard Sweet Potatoes. If you click the hyperlink it will take you to her recipe. Here is the Recipe for my Still Not As Good As My Dads Ribs. Side note I cut part of the tip off my thumb while using the slicer to cut my sweet taters. Don’t worry no blood or skin in my food! But I had to take a break and use my Army tape to patch my self up.
Still Not Better than my Dad’s Ribs
2 Racks of Pork Ribs ( I got St. Louis Style because they were on sale!)
About 4 T of both Garlic and Onion Powder
Salt and Pepper to taste
Trader Joes Organic KC BBQ Sauce
About five hours or more before I cook them I clean them up a little (important I separate the film from the meat on the back side of the Ribs). Then I season to my liking with the Garlic, Onion, Salt and Pepper. When it is time to grill them I heat my grill to a low temp around 40oF and cook for 15 mins flip and then 15 mins more before I start lightly painting BBQ Sauce on with a cooking brush flipping every 15 mins more BBQ Sauce for 30-60 more mins. Then take them off and let them rest for about 5 mins. Next cut and ENJOY!
After a kick butt dinner some really good friends of ours came over to watch the Base’s fireworks display from our front yard (The Brown Family). Our house on base is at a perfect spot to watch the display, so we don’t ever have to fight the crowds of people that go to the Parade Field. It is always nice to hang out with a great family and watch the kids play.
Hope you all had a wonderful 4th with the people you love most.
